Tom Cruise’s famous Mission Impossible franchise is ending soon, with Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two finishing the film series in 2024. Franchise director Christopher McQuarrie frequently updates his social media with new and old cast updates, and we’ve seen some familiar faces returning.
His most recent post on Instagram confirms Rolf Saxon, who we last saw in the first film, returning to Mission Impossible 8. Don’t remember who that is? I’m here to give you a refresher course. But first, why don’t you check out McQ’s Instagram post to see Saxon’s new look in the 2024 film and try to guess? Here’s the link:
Still can’t place him? Well, alright. I’m sure you remember the famous scene in the first Mission: Impossible, where Ethan hangs from the ceiling and steals the NOC list from the CIA’S high-security vault. Remember the guard that took the blame and was assigned to a substation in Alaska?
Yes, now you’ve got it! The analyst, William Donloe, was played by Saxon, and in the new BTS picture, we see a much older and scruffier version of him, dressed for the cold.
The winterwear suggests the analyst is still stationed in the arctic region and recent reports have confirmed that Ethan’s latest adventure will take him to the cold side, where we’ll see what Donloe has made for himself.
Will this be William’s chance for redemption or just another dupe in the grander scheme of things? We’ll have to wait for the film’s release to find that answer. But Saxon is not the only returning actor to the franchise.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will feature the return of Eugene Kittridge, played by Henry Czerny, the former director of IMF we last saw in the 1996 film.
Alanna Mitsopolis, Max Mitsopolis’ daughter and the arms dealer we met in the first film, is also returning to Mission Impossible 7, but Vanessa Redgraves is being recast and replaced by Vanessa Kirby.
Another cast addition Christopher McQuarrie has teased on his social media accounts includes Inuit actor Lucy Tulugarjuk, who will join Saxon in the polar regions, hinting at the icy return to the roots of the first film.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is coming to theaters on July 14, 2023, followed by Part Two a year later, which will hit theaters on June 28, 2024. Are you ready for the most dangerous mission of Ethan Hunt’s life?
