‘Money Heist’ Season 5 Image Reveals Shooting Wrapped Up

Netflix revealed in a photo that Money Heist has wrapped Season 5 filming.

“What started as a heist, ended as a family,” Netflix tweeted on Friday, 14 May.

“It’s a wrap on Part 5 of La Casa de Papel / Money Heist. Thank you to all the fans for being part of La Resistencia! We can’t wait to show you how this story ends.”

Money Heist is Netflix’s most successful Spanish series to date. The show was also its top non-English project until the French series Lupin premiered in December.

The show follows two major bank heists staged by a mysterious criminal mastermind called the Professor (Álvaro Morte). Silene Oliveira (Úrsula Corberó), the series’ main character, bungles a heist of her own and joins the heist team when the Professor notices her potential.

The members of the team take up code names based on major global cities. The show’s drama arises from the Professor’s complex plans, which involve specific requirements against his employees indulging in personal relationships or violating certain moral principles.

After the team robs the Royal Mint in Parts 1 and 2 of the series, Parts 3 and 4 chronicle a heist on the Bank of Spain that remains incomplete at the beginning of Season 5.

In a statement posted to Netflix’s “See What’s Next” account (now labeled Netflix Queue), Alex Pina, the creator of the show, said back in July that Season 5 will “break up the band,” “put the Professor on the ropes,” and put characters in “irreversible situations.”

Money Heist Season 4 ended with a win for the team as they managed to get Lisbon out of jail and sneak her into the Bank of Spain to join the rest of the heist crew. Though they’re well-positioned to complete the heist at this point, the plan remains more complicated and dangerous to pull off than their first.

The previously anonymous group has also evolved as both a public enemy in the eyes of the government and a national emblem of anti-capitalism and resistance to the system. This has made it harder for them to fly under the radar. It’s almost obvious that some or many team members will not make it out of the heist alive. However, it will be intriguing to see who all will survive and whether the heist is pulled off.

Netflix revealed the show would come to an end with Season 5, last summer. Although due to the ongoing pandemic, a release date hasn’t yet been decided, some estimates say it can be expected to come out in October 2021, while some say not before 2022.

About Money Heist

Money Heist (Spanish: La casa de papel, meaning “The House of Paper”) is a Spanish heist crime drama television series created by Álex Pina.

The series traces two long-prepared heists led by the Professor (Álvaro Morte), one on the Royal Mint of Spain, and one on the Bank of Spain. The narrative is told in a real-time-like fashion and relies on flashbacks, time-jumps, hidden character motivations, and an unreliable narrator for complexity.

The show focuses on the meticulous plans and the specific contingencies of the Professor who has prepared his group of robbers dressed in red jumpsuits and Dali masks.
