‘Money Heist’ Season 5: Netflix Reveals Premiere Date

Netflix unveiled the release dates for the two-part, fifth and final season of Spanish crime drama Money Heist, with Part 1 dropping in September.

Originally Le Casa de Papel, the show will be split into two halves of five episodes each. Money Heist Season 5 Volume 1 will drop on September 3 on Netflix, with Volume 2 following towards the end of the year on December 3.

Season 5 is set to bring the heist to an end, as Netflix previously announced it would be the show’s last season.

And Netflix is finally letting fans know when they can expect the heist to come to an end in a new teaser.

The series creator Álex Pina said this about Money Heist Part 5:

“When we began to write Part 5 in the midst of the pandemic, we felt that we had to change what was expected from the ten-episode season and used every tool we could to create the sensation of a season finale or series finale in the first volume itself.”

Álex Pina, Series Creator

Pina went on to tease an “extremely aggressive genre” for the upcoming season even though its second half will focus more on the emotional connection of The Gang.

Here’s what Money Heist Part 5’s official synopsis reveals about the upcoming season:

“The gang has been shut in the Bank of Spain for over 100 hours. They have managed to rescue Lisbon, but their darkest moment is upon them after losing one of their own. The Professor has been captured by Sierra and, for the first time, doesn’t have an escape plan.

Just when it seems like nothing else could go wrong, an enemy comes on the scene that is much more powerful than any they’ve faced: the army. The end of the greatest heist in history is approaching, and what began as a robbery will turn into a war.”

Money Heist began its Netflix journey in December 2017—after originally airing on Antena 3 in Spain in May 2017—and it’s now set to conclude that run in the same month four years later.

About Money Heist

Money Heist (Spanish: La casa de papel, meaning “The House of Paper”) is a Spanish heist crime drama television series created by Álex Pina.

The series traces two long-prepared heists led by the Professor (Álvaro Morte), one on the Royal Mint of Spain, and one on the Bank of Spain. The narrative is told in a real-time-like fashion and relies on flashbacks, time-jumps, hidden character motivations, and an unreliable narrator for complexity.

The show focuses on the meticulous plans and the specific contingencies of the Professor who has prepared his group of robbers dressed in red jumpsuits and Dali masks.
