Monica Rambeau Explains What Wanda’s Mind Control Feels Like

WandaVision actress Teyonah Parris revealed what it’s like to be inside the head of someone whose mind is being controlled by Wanda aka Scarlet Witch, on WandaVision.

Parris plays Monica Rambeau in the first Disney+ MCU series and was introduced to fans as Geraldine in the second episode. Proceeding through the show, fans knew more about Geraldine than she knew about herself. The show’s makers disclosed later that this was because ahead of the events of the first episode, Monica Rambeau had entered into Wanda’s Hex.

After Monica enters the Hex, she loses power over who she is, which is part of Wanda’s mind control tricks that are enabling her to keep the residents of Westview in line. While it’s debatable just how much Wanda is in control of Westview, many characters have said that Wanda has some pretence of authority.

In the latest episode, nosy neighbour Agnes said that Wanda does not even allow them to think about their situations. Now, Parris has indicated what it feels like to be inside the head of someone being influenced by Scarlet Witch.

While talking to Collider about how complicated it was acting as both Geraldine and Monica, Parris states,

“I think it was a sliding scale… I think the best way that I tried to understand it is almost like a fog, because when Monica talks about it when she’s getting her evaluation, she’s like, it’s like I knew what was happening, but I couldn’t do anything. So it, to me, in my mind, how I tried to process Wanda’s control, is like a fog where you’re aware, but you’re unable to react. Does that make sense?”

It’s still not clear as to who’s truly in control of the circumstances in Westview, but Wanda does inevitably have a hand in some of it. Towards the end of WandaVision episode five, it’s evident that, even if Wanda isn’t the one entirely in control, she has a vested interest in making sure the Hex stays as it is.

WandaVision is heading into the final phases of its story. It will now require disclosing some answers if it wants to prevent trudging water and outraging fans.

With last week’s Malcolm in the Middle spoof being incredibly useful, the setup for WandaVision has been more than followed through on. It seems like things are about to get real. Darcy Lewis was sucked into the Hex and now will be in a similar position to Monica’s.

Luckily, Vision knows how to pull people out of the spell, and Darcy may be able to assist him to get to the root of what’s going on in Westview and WandaVision.
