Moon Knight Director Teases a Satisfying Ending Full of Surprises

Within a span of just five episodes, Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight has proven that with an intriguing story, even a relatively unknown underdog can quickly become a fan-favourite superhero.

As the series reaches its finale next week, the man behind it, director Mohamed Diab, has teased some twists, turns, and other surprises that fans can expect to see in Episode 6.

Ahead of the finale premiere, while talking to EW, Diab teased,

“I hope it’s a satisfying wrap-up to our story. I feel it is. There are some surprises. I think the audience deserves a big action sequence, but it’s more than that. It has some twists and turns, and I really feel like it’s a satisfying ending to our journey.”

Episode 5, titled Asylum, was a real turning point for the story as it finally revealed which specific moments in Marc’s childhood caused him to develop a split personality and create Steven.

Marc had based Steven on his favourite British action hero as a way to find escape from his abusive mother who used to beat him up and blamed him for his brother’s death.

Calling Asylum his favourite episode, Diab explained that his intention was to present the audience with a glimpse in the mind of someone suffering from DID.

“Through Episode 5, you understand that usually people who have DID are traumatized when they’re kids, and they create a character that can overcome their fear or shield themselves from their fear. They create a character that didn’t go through that trauma. I love how that’s integrated into the story— it makes the whole show…

The acting is so serious, yet everything is so weird. I thought that could actually make the show better, just sending [viewers] into more confusion. It works because you’re seeing it from the point of view of someone who has DID. It’s like a trip into their mind.”

Now that Steven is gone and Marc’s soul has been “balanced,” it remains to be seen whether the final episode brings him back somehow or introduces Jake Lockley instead.

Marc has a lot of damage control to do in the final episode, including freeing Khonshu.

Based on the untimely passing of souls that has Taweret panicking at the end of Episode 5, it’s safe to assume that perhaps Arthur Harrow has successfully released Ammit, promising an epic finale.

Prepare for a “very trippy” conclusion to the series with Episode 6, which is reportedly titled Gods and Monsters. (via The Cosmic Circus)

Moon Knight airs its sixth and final episode of the season on Disney+ on May 4.
