‘Mortal Kombat’ Trailer Reveals How Scorpion Acquired His Kunai

It’s official. Mortal Kombat is coming back to our screens with a reboot. The movie, which will have many characters from the original game, will bring back some of the primary characters as well, including Sonya, Raiden, and Scorpion. The trailer, which dropped a few days ago, shows many fight sequences, a lot of them featuring Scorpion and his signature kunai, whose history the movie will dwell on.

With his iconic catchphrase “Get over here!” and wielding his deadly kunai, Scorpion is the original series’ mascot. An undead spirit, playing a villain-like role, he has been featured in every Mortal Kombat game. Fans who are excited about the upcoming reboot look forward to seeing him come back to the screen.

With the new movie, it seems that Scorpion is going back to his early days of malevolence. It’s been confirmed that Mortal Kombat will detail Scorpion’s origins, especially the history of how he got his kunai.

Director Simon McQuoid, who recently sat down for an interview with IGN, affirmed the news. Stating that he intended to honor the traditional Japanese weapon, McQuoid did extensive research and found that the kunai was used as a gardening tool in early Japan.

To use it as an effective weapon, Scorpion had to attach it to a rope to grab hold of it and use it on enemies.

From McQuoid’s statement, it becomes evident that the director has taken some very admirable first steps into the movie’s development. The previous films, which missed the mark of properly highlighting the significant weapon, made many errors regarding its features and usage.

Honouring the Japanese ninja culture, the movie will also have many action-packed scenes filmed with the Japanese fighting styles from the 14th century.

Thus, it seems that we are in for a Mortal Kombat that will not only bring a contemporary twist to the franchise but also be devoted to the backstory of the weapon that has defined the series. Hopefully, to the rest of the movie, too. Fingers crossed!
