Ms. Marvel “Time and Again” E5 Explained: Aisha’s Story and More

The latest MCU series on Disney+, Ms. Marvel, is coming to an end. The six-part TV series airs weekly on Wednesdays, and this week finished Episode 5, “Time and Again,” leaving the finale for next week.

In Episode 5, Kamala finds herself traveling through time to save her grandmother, Sana, in the days of Hindustan’s partition into India and Pakistan, finally learning the truth behind Aisha’s story. And what’s more, we have another superhero in the Disney+ series—Najma has transferred her powers to Kamran!

The show has risen in popularity but remains the least-watched MCU series yet, with a mix of reviews bordering on average. The show follows a Pakistani-American teen, Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), who is a huge fan of superheroes in general but one in particular—Captain Marvel. But at Avengerscon, Kamala discovers that she has acquired superpowers.

The show has captured Kamala’s balance between understanding her secret superpowers and having a normal life while diving deep into her ancestry and her family’s history with powers.

In the most recent episode, Kamala goes back in time to understand her connection to Aisha and Najma, finding herself transported to 1947 in India, after their independence, and during the partition.

In the flashback, we see a young Aisha (Mehwish Hayat) and Hasan (Fawad Khan) starting their love story after a shaky first meet. She births a beautiful baby, Sana, who we know as Kamala’s grandmother, making Aisha Ms. Marvel’s great-grandmother.

Najma (Nimra Bucha), leader of the Clandestines bent on returning to their home dimension Noor, finds Aisha and demands her bangle to escape their exile on Earth. Aisha fools Najma by lying to her and runs back to Hasan. She confesses her true identity as a Clandestine to Hasan and implores that he take Sana and travel to Pakistan to escape Najma with Aisha’s bangle.

At the station, we see an angry Najma stab Aisha, and with her last dying breath, Aisha activates her bangle, and light emits from it. The show cuts to the scene where we see Episode 4 end, with Kamala landing in the past. She sees Sana as a child and learns that she’s been separated from her father. Kamala then uses her powers to safely return her to Hasan, who boards the train closing the time loop.

Kamala travels back in time as she and the Clandestines fight to close the veil and stop the Djinns from entering Earth and claiming it. Najma ultimately makes the necessary sacrifice to shut the portal, and Kamala closes the opening but is seen by her mother and grandmother.

Back in New York, we see Kamran (Rish Shah) and Bruno (Matt Lintz) trying to hide and run from Damage Control, the show’s main antagonist. But at death’s door, Najma had somehow transferred her powers into Kamran, who blows up Damage Control’s drone with his newly acquired powers.
