Kumail Nanjiani Discusses His Character Kingo’s Future in the MCU

Eternals actor Kumail Nanjiani addresses the potential future of his character, Kingo in the MCU. Kingo was last seen in the MCU’s 2021 release, Eternals.

Eternals marked the directorial debut of Chloe Zhau and introduced the audience to the titular group of immortal heroes who protect the Earth. The ensemble cast includes Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Salma Hayek, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Lia McHugh and Nanjiani.

The story of Eternals takes place over 7000 years. But the film is set in present-day. The heroes have now disbanded and are leading normal human lives on Earth. Nanjiani plays Kingo, a famous Bollywood superstar who is always accompanied by his trusted valet, Karun.

In the film, Kingo refuses to join the Eternals in their epic final battle, as he does not wish to fight his family. His fellow Eternals go on to the final battle against Ikaris. Since his appearance in Eternals, Kingo has been mentioned within the MCU quite a few times.

For instance, some recent set photos from Loki season 2 featured Kingo in an in-universe poster. However, Kingo’s actual future in the MCU remains uncertain.

In an interview with Collider, Nanjiani spoke about his character Kingo’s future within the MCU, admitting that he has “no idea what’s going on.”

The actor confirmed that he wishes to return, but also said that he is not sure whether his character will return to the MCU. He also praised the MCU’s upcoming release, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Here’s what he said:

I’m completely in the dark. I have no idea what’s going on. Truly no idea what’s going on. I genuinely don’t know when or if Kingo is coming back to the MCU. I really have no idea. I’m just really excited about the direction they’re going. The new people they’ve cast are really good. I just saw the new Black Panther movie, and I’ve never seen a blockbuster like that, that’s so complicated and tragic, in so many different ways, but also really fun and funny and thrilling. So, I think they’re really stretching and doing some great stuff right now. I’d love to come back and do stuff, but I genuinely have no idea.

The most probable way to bring back the Eternals in the MCU is via Eternals 2. However, not much is known about the status of an Eternals sequel. There are some other ways in which the Eternals could return to the MCU.

Fans have speculated that the Eternals could return within the story of Blade. The end-credits scene in Eternals established a direct-link to this highly anticipated MCU project. We can also expect to see the Eternals play a role in Phase 6’s most anticipated releases, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Only time will tell what the MCU eventually decides to do with the Eternals and whether we will see Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo once again.
