Could Netflix Give New Life to Manifest After NBC Cancellation?

Not many shows have had the luck in recent years to be revived by Netflix following their end or cancellation on respective channels.

But it seems NBC’s Manifest could be making the shift soon. The third season which premiered on April 1, ended on a cliffhanger ensued by the announcement of the show’s cancellation, angering fans.

But according to Deadline, hope for the missing plane drama exists as Netflix may be looking to adopt Manifest on its platform. The show’s first two seasons came at the #3 spot and became the most-watched show on the streaming service.

Reports say talks are going on between Warner Bros. TV and Netflix regarding the series’ financials and viability. NBC gave Manifest the ax on June 14 after running for three seasons of the initially proposed six-season plan.

Creator Jeff Rake responded to the news on June 15 by posting a Tweet which said,

“…I am devastated by NBC’s decision to cancel us. That we’ve been shut down in the middle is a gut punch, to say the least. Hoping to find a new home. You fans deserve an ending to your story…”

Manifest first premiered in 2018 and followed the passengers of a missing flight charter who suddenly reappear after they are presumed to be dead for almost half a decade.

However, despite their return, it’s as if no time has passed for any of them. But things begin to take a mysterious turn when the passengers start hearing voices predicting future events, termed callings.

Although such revivals on Netflix are rare, some of them have proven to work, such as Fox’s Lucifer, which became an original series on the streamer and quickly garnered a lot of fame. It should also be noted that Lucifer is produced by none other than WBTV.

Other fan favorites given new life by Netflix include Arrested Development, Black Mirror, Fuller House, and Gilmore Girls.

Furthermore, to ensure Netflix takes into consideration the public’s opinion as well, fans have launched #savemanifest on Twitter which is a pretty strong indicator that viewers are curious about what exactly happened on Flight 828.

But even though the glimmer of hope may exist for Manifest, the rescue status for other recently canceled NBC shows like Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and Debris remains unknown.

It should then come down to Netflix’s final say about bringing back Manifest, hopefully paving the way for other shows, too.
