Netflix’s Tudum to Reveal The Sandman’s First Look on Sep 25

The Sandman will have its first major reveal this Saturday, September 25, on Netflix’s virtual global fan event “Tudum.”

Tudum is divided into three-hour slots. As per schedule, Hour Two will be hosted by Finn Wolfhard and Caleb McLaughlin and kickstarted by The Sandman panel. Tom Sturridge, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Neil Gaiman will be attending.

During The Sandman panel, fans can expect to see character posters, first looks, and perhaps even a teaser video.

For the unacquainted, Sturridge will be playing The Sandman/Morpheus, also known as the Dream of the Endless. He is one of the seven “Endless” — the others being Death, Destiny, Desire, Delirium, Despair, and Destruction.

Killing Eve’s Howell-Baptiste, who is also attending the panel, plays Death in the live-action.

The cast is an impressive one with Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christine and Charles Dance as Lucifer and Roderick Burgess respectively, Doctor Who’s Jenna Coleman as Detective Constantine and Harry Potter’s David Thewlis as Doctor Destiny.

As Gaiman envisioned it, the Endless are anthropomorphic personifications of metaphysical entities, the likes of which we have tasted in the live-action of Good Omens.

The Sandman’s story follows the capture of Dream in 1916 during an occult trial. In 2021, after being captive for over a decade, he breaks free and seeks to re-establish order in his kingdom of Dreaming.

Here’s Gaiman explaining the premise:

While The Sandman’s release date is TBA, we know that filming has wrapped up as of August. I hope Tudum does give us a definitive timeline for the show!

HBO Max is also reportedly developing a documentary exploring DC’s 80-year-old history. [Please insert’s Ruchika’s article link here — HBO Max To Cover DC’s 80 Year Old History in Three-Part Documentary] As The Sandman is a huge part of DC Comics and its attempts of besting Marvel, it would be delightful to have more insights into the Endless World via the documentary.

Besides The Sandman, Tudum will reveal exclusive details for shows like Cobra Kai, Bridgerton, Stranger Things, The Witcher, Emily in Paris, and more. Make sure to check out details of the event and catch your faves in time!

For those who enjoy Gaiman’s work, I’d recommend having a look at American Gods and keeping up with updates of the upcoming Anansi Boys, Season 2 of Good Omens, and Dead Boy Detectives.

About The Sandman

The Sandman is an American fantasy drama TV series based on the 1989–1996 comic book written by Neil Gaiman and published by DC Comics. The series was developed for Netflix and is being produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television.

The first season adapted the first two comics in the series, Preludes & Nocturnes and The Doll’s House. In 1916, Dream, the king of Dreams and Nightmares and one of the seven Endless, is captured and imprisoned after an occult ritual. After being held captive for 106 years, he escapes and sets out to restore order to his kingdom of The Dreaming.

The Sandman stars Tom Sturridge as Dream, with Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, and Sanjeev Bhaskar in supporting roles.
