Will Smith at Risk of Losing Upcoming Projects Due to Oscars Slap

Will Smith’s slap at the Oscars has led to some rough consequences for the actor.

Smith won Best Actor at the 2022 Academy Awards but lost a lot more due to his assault on comedian Chris Rock, with the latest being a new project at Netflix.

Ever since the incident, Smith has made public apologies to Rock and also resigned from the Academy. However, despite his apologies, not everyone seems ready to forgive and forget.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has moved Smith’s upcoming project Fast and Loose “to the back burner.”

The project had already faced some hindrances when director David Leitch dropped out of the project for Universal’s Ryan Gosling starrer, Fall Guy, which is expected to begin production in August.

According to THR’s source, Netflix was competing with Universal to bag Leitch’s next film, but after the Oscars incident, the streamer decided to put it on hold indefinitely.

The plot for Fast and Loose was supposed to follow “a crime boss who loses his memory after an attack. Piecing together clues, he discovers that he has led a double identity as a wealthy kingpin and a broke CIA agent.”

If Netflix does decide to move forward with it sometime in the future, it is unclear whether another actor would replace Smith for the role. Smith’s other upcoming projects like Bad Boys 4 at Sony have also been paused after the incident.

The actor is next set to appear in Apple TV+’s drama, Emancipation, which is currently in post-production. The film was set to release sometime in 2022, but it does not have a release date yet.
