Stranger Things S4 Trailer Foreshadows the Story of a Cursed Hawkins

The trailer for Stranger Things Season 4 is finally here and it’s impossible to continue further without asking… What the hell is that White Walker type of monster?

Netflix has just dropped the first full-length trailer for the series after teasing fans with tiny glimpses for almost three years. Everything screams the mid-80s in the trailer, even the background music chosen for the clip—the 1983 song by Journey called Separate Ways.

The trailer is a work of art that reveals just enough to keep fans hooked but not enough to spoil anything. A sigh of relief for fans to find out that the upcoming season seems worth the long and excruciating wait they’ve had to endure.

Right at the beginning of the clip, we meet this season’s main villain, whose identity is up for grabs, but we have an idea of who it might be.

For starters, the creature looks a lot like White Walker from Game of Thrones, with icy blue eyes on a face that has a darker, more “Upside Down” feel to it. It seems fitting as creators Matt and Ross Duffer have compared this season with Game of Thrones in terms of a branched story following various characters in different locations.

Fast forward to six months after the Battle of Starcourt, and as Max states in the trailer while talking to Billy’s gravestone, “Ever since you left, everything’s been a total disaster.”

It’s time to see the gang in Hawkins on the other side, and Eleven is the only hope they have to “win this war.” Even though they’ve moved from Hawkins to sunny California, things seem just as gloomy, and she has to figure things out about her powerlessness.

We also meet Hopper all the way in a snowy Russian prison, sparring with one of the series’ infamous creatures, the Demogorgon.

There are shots of Steve, Nancy, and the group at the Creel haunted mansion, and something tells us the menacing and blinded Victor Creel has something to do with the White Walker situation.

Then there’s a new character, Eddie Munson, who leads The Hellfire Club at Hawkins High School, and, in a weirdly cool manner, plays the electric guitar in the Upside Down, which we’re not sure what to make of.

(If we’re really referencing other pop-culture titles, would it be too much of a stretch to make a not-so-bizarre guess that he might have similar power to Yoshinobu Gakuganji in Jujutsu Kaisen?)

There are also flashbacks of Eleven from when she was young, with the voiceover stating that maybe Hawkins had always been cursed.

This statement further proves to be true when Max is seen floating in the air, having gained new powers? Billy’s gravestone also changes to “William,” so maybe it’s his parting gift to her.

For a split second, Max is seen lying on the ground while her friends surround her body. A gift or a curse, only time will tell.

Stranger Things Season 4 is split into two parts, with Volume 1 premiering on May 27 and Volume 2 following on July 1.
