When Trevor Noah first joined the show as a host in 2015, he was not received with the same enthusiasm as his predecessor, Jon Stewart. He was selected from a pool of contenders, including Adam Poehler and Chris Rock, who turned the offer down.

Despite the bumpy start, it did not take Trevor Noah much time to make the show his own and become synonymous with it.

Therefore, Noah’s exit feels a little rushed. He said in his announcement that after hosting the show through the Covid-19 pandemic and Trump’s rule, he feels like his “time is up”.

Who will replace him?

Nothing has been announced by The Daily Show yet. Reportedly, the show will establish a rotating guest model when it returns on January 17, 2023.

The show will likely use Noah’s exit to reinvent from scratch.

As for Noah, he spoke about wanting to reinvent himself as a stand-up comedian. I Thought You Would is likely the start of many more stints like this in the future.

I Wish You Would starts streaming on Netflix on November 22, 2022.
