Anthony Mackie’s Captain America meets Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel for the first time in a short clip from Disney’s cruise line MCU show Avengers: Quantum encounter.
Avengers: Quantum Reactor exists in the universe adjacent to the one followed in the MCU, where Thanos never snapped his fingers, and The Blip never occurred. Thus, the show does not show canon MCU stories, but some interactions will set up future team-ups while bringing alive a select few fan theories.
The show marks Sam Wilson’s (Anthony Mackie) first look in his Captain America look apart from The Falcon And The Winter Soldier TV series, where he first took up the mantle, and the legacy, passed down by Steve.
Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) dons the costume Ms. Marvel wears in the comics instead of the makeshift super wear she’s been putting on in the MCU TV series.
In the video posted by Ms. Marvel’s UK Twitter account, the two interact after a completed mission where Sam Wilson compliments Kamala on a job well done and puts her on cleanup duty, earning a reaction that any teen would find relatable.
Many such interactions non-canon to the MCU timeline will take place in the upcoming film, and other clips have cropped up on the internet. One shows Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) talking to the viewers as Ant-man discusses the wild fan theory of destroying Thanos from the inside out by shrinking and entering him…you-know-where and going super-size.
What’s more interesting about this meeting between Sam Wilson’s Captain America and Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel meeting is how it highlights the similarity between the difficulties they faced while trying to live up to the superhero name.
Sam had to deal with society’s view of a man of color holding Captain America’s shield, whereas Kamala had to deal with the pressure of being the first Pakistani-American superhero. In both their hardships, a new role model rises, influencing people that can relate to them the most.
These clips might foreshadow other bonds or teams in the MCU timeline in the future, and even if not, it provides a fun preview of what such team-ups could be in the MCU.
