Eternals Synopsis Reveals It Will Take Place Across Two Time Periods

Marvel has officially begun promoting its next Phase 4 film, Eternals, with a brand new TV spot and an official synopsis.

Entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe are the god-like alien beings who have inhabited Earth for thousands of years. Directed by Chloé Zhao, Eternals will see the group of superheroes fighting Deviants.

An updated synopsis released by Marvel Studios revealed that Eternals will be taking place in two different time periods:

“The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit.

The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.”

As seen in the final trailer, Ajax has to reunite all the Eternals to prepare for something known as ‘The Emergence,’ which occurred when the Avengers brought the snapped population back.

We want audiences to discover a corner of the Marvel universe they’ve never seen before. We want them to discover a mythology that is a challenging sci-fi movie but also has a human heart. And we want them to meet ten heroes who they hopefully can relate to.

According to Kino Metro, Eternals runtime is listed as 156 minutes (2 hours and 36 minutes). If this information is accurate, it will surpass Avengers: Infinity War runtime.

Seeing how Infinity War was packed with a lot of action sequences, most of the runtime was spent on extensive fight scenes.

Whereas Eternals is bound to spend more time on character introductions and building a story around these new characters that non-comic fans don’t have in-depth knowledge about.

The cast includes Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, Angelina Jolie, Kit Harington, and Dan Stevens.

As for the new clip, it has a hilarious DC reference. When a kid tells Ikaris that he has seen him on TV with a cape, shooting laser beams out of his eyes (obviously Superman), the superhero replies that he doesn’t wear a cape.
