Warner Bros. Pictures Group COO Carolyn Blackwood and New Line President and CCO Richard Brener said in a statement,

“All of us at New Line feel a deep affinity for the extraordinary world J.R.R. Tolkien created, so the opportunity to dive back into Middle-earth with the team at Warner Bros. Animation is a dream come true.”

Sam Register, Warner Bros. Animation President, stated ,

“This will be yet another epic portrayal of J.R.R. Tolkien’s world that has never been told before. We’re honored to partner with much of the incredible talent behind both film trilogies, along with new creative luminaries to tell this story… And so it begins.”

This isn’t the only exciting news for the fans of the franchise, as there is another upcoming LOTR project being developed by Amazon Studios. The new LOTR series will explore the Second Age of Middle-earth. It is touted to be the streaming service’s most expensive project, estimated to be valued at $1 billion.

The Lord of The Rings trilogy remains one of the highest-grossing movie series of all time, grossing $2.9 billion upon initial release and winning 17 Oscars in total.
