Percy Jackson Author Shares Photos from the Set

Percy Jackson and the Olympians author Rick Riordan has made it clear that the 20th Century Percy Jackson adaptations had not done justice to his books. Thus, even fans see his active involvement and regular updates about the upcoming Percy Jackson TV series as a good sign.

His October update featured new images from Leah Jeffries’ birthday on the set that teased a significant Annabeth detail from the books included in the show.

The Percy Jackson series, and Riordan’s involvement as writer and executive producer, were announced in May 2020. Following that, fans lapped up every update regarding the show and have yet to be disappointed.

In September 2022, at the D23 Expo, the series’ cast also had their panel where they released the teaser for season 1, which is currently in production.

Rick Riordan shared his updates about his various ongoing projects in October 2022 on his blog, including photos and stories from the Percy Jackson set. The author shared images of Leah Jeffries (playing Annabeth Chase) on set, celebrating her birthday with cake and gifts.

But what’s that in her pocket? A Yankees cap? Woah, is that what we think it is? Rick Riordan confirms the Annabeth detail in the image’s caption, which you can read below:

If you look closely, you’ll see Leah’s “ANNABETH CHASE” director’s chair and perhaps a certain fashion accessory Annabeth is never without. This young lady is so, so talented. She is Annabeth to a tee, and when you see her in the show, you will immediately understand why. We are delighted and lucky to have her in the PJO family.

So yes, that’s Annabeth’s Yankees cap, the one that allows her to turn invisible when she puts it on – a significant detail missed by the Fox films. Fans take this as proof that Rick’s involvement and stamp of approval on Leah’s Annabeth guarantees a promising adaptation this time around.

Other updates in the blog also highlight that production is well underway, and some gods have also visited the sets! Ares? Poseidon? Dionysus? Maybe more? Rick didn’t disclose names or casting choices, but it only adds to the excitement. Wouldn’t you say so?

Disney has yet to set an official release date or window, but we presume that the show will be hitting Disney+ in 2024, all eight episodes out at once or in weekly installments.
