Indiana Jones 5 Set Photos Reveal Toby Jones As Indy’s New Sidekick

Filming has finally begun for the highly-anticipated Indiana Jones 5 film in Leader foot, Melrose in the Scottish Borders. This will be Harrison Ford’s fifth time reprising the role of the beloved heroic archaeologist. Ford made his debut as Indiana Jones in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark.

In new set images released by The Daily Mail, Ford and his new co-star Toby Jones are seen filming on location in North Yorkshire Moors. It appears that Jones will be playing Indy’s new side-kick.

In the images, Ford and Jones looked disheveled as they shot tense-looking scenes. Legend says that the Bamburgh Castle, where filming is taking place, is said to be haunted by a ghost. Both actors were surrounded by crew members in masks amidst tall grass where they were filming what looked like an escape/action sequence.

Jones had make-up bruises on his face, whereas Ford’s face was covered with black dots, further confirming that the film might use de-aging process for possible flashback scenes. A stuntman was seen preparing for a motorcycle sequence. He was donning a face mask resembling Harrison Ford.

A look at the props showed a black steam train transformed into a Nazi carrier engine and vintage cars. A Nazi swastika symbol had been attached to the side of the steam engine and onto a wooden pallet and the side of a green passenger carriage. Set images with Nazi era tanks also hint at flashbacks that might take us back to 1940s.

The most recent film in the franchise was 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.Talks for the fifth installment have been happening since then but stalled frequently due to a struggle to find the right story, followed by Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm. After many hindrances, development finally began in 2016. Now, after years of uncertainty, the wait is finally over.

Director James Mangold recently teased that the main story of the upcoming film takes place in the 1960s. Mangold expressed his admiration for the 1960s rock band The Velvet Underground and said that he’s mentally living in the 1960s right now as all the films he’s currently working on are set in that era.

Although Mangold didn’t specifically mention Indiana Jones 5, seeing as it is his next movie, it wouldn’t be too far off to assume that the movie will be set sometime during the 1960s. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull takes place in 1957, so the next film mainly taking place at least a few years later would make sense, whilst including flashbacks from different eras.

James Mangold has taken over as director from Steven Spielberg, who is still involved in various elements and serves as a producer. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel will also join Spielberg as producers. John Williams, the legendary composer, who has worked on every score in the 40-year-old franchise, including its iconic theme, also will return.

So far, the star-studded ensemble includes Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renee Wilson set to join in on the adventure. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, and it’s unclear what roles the new additions will play in the film.

The film currently has a release date scheduled for July 29, 2022.
