Out of the two Transformers movies currently in the works, the one being directed by Steven Caple Jr. has cast the Judas and the Black Messiah star Dominique Fishback in a lead role. She started her career with small roles in The Knick, The Americans, and The Hate You Give. After admiring her in significant roles in Project Power and Judas and The Black Messiah, we’ll get to see her again in the upcoming installment in the Transformers franchise.
The movie is rumored to hit the theatres on June 24, 2022. It has also roped in the Hamilton and In The Heights star Anthony Ramos a few weeks ago.
According to Deadline, Fishback and Ramos have been friends for years now. When they were in college, they also did a play together. Now they’ll be together again but on a big screen this time. Cool, right?
Though Paramount has still not revealed anything about the plot and the cast, we do know that the movie will be based on a script by Joby Harold. It will pick up the story in continuation from the 2018 Transformers reboot movie Bumblebee.
The spin-off/prequel film Bumblebee was well-received by the long-time fans of the franchise. What was first thought to be an unnecessary addition to the franchise was later described as surprisingly entertaining. It was a throwback to ’80s pop culture, which included classic cars and music. It was an origin story with tenderness, humor, and action.
The EOne studio is behind this movie along with the franchise studio Paramount. The co-financiers are Skydance and New Republic Pictures, with Skydance also doing the executive producing.
Kiki Layne from The Chi and If Beale Street Could Talk was also being considered for the role. But ultimately, it was Dominique who grabbed it. Fishback confirmed this news via her Instagram handle the day before.
