The hopes for a Supernatural spinoff are not dead yet. Sure, it took quite a few tries to make it happen, but the fantasy drama’s prequel series has officially found its new cast members.
Nida Khurshid and newcomer Jojo Fleites are set to be series regulars and were the first to be cast in The Winchesters pilot, Deadline reports.
This news comes after The CW finally greenlit The Winchesters for a pilot order this February. While Sam and Dean’s journey is over, this new spinoff will instead take us to the past of their parents—John and Mary Winchester.
Although these characters’ connection to the Winchesters is still unknown, both seem to be integral to the story according to their descriptions.
Khurshid’s Latika Desai is described as a “fiercely intelligent and brave young hunter-in-training whose research and problem-solving skills help her face her fears in battling dark forces.”
While Fleites will play Carlos Cervantez, who’s “easygoing, confident and a natural when it comes to fighting demons and a boost of positivity for the team as it takes on more serious threats.”
While the main leads for John and Mary have not been cast yet, the older pair was portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith in Supernatural.
The project is deeply connected with its predecessor as it hails from Supernatural’s Robbie Thompson, Jensen Ackles, and Danneel Ackles.
Glen Winter will direct the pilot, written by Thompson with Jensen Ackles narrating it as Dean. Jensen and Danneel Ackles also executive produce with Winter and Thompson.
According to the Deadline description, the series will be told from the perspective of Dean. The Winchesters is said to be an “epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love but the entire world.”
