Ozark Showrunner Teases a Perfect Closure for the Series Finale

As Ozark, one of Netflix’s most acclaimed original series, nears its conclusion, showrunner Chris Mundy teases where fans can expect the story to go in season 4, part 2.

The final season is split into two parts consisting of 7 episodes. And although part 1 dropped just last week, ending with dramatic deaths and twists, Mundy promises part 2 will bring closure to the Byrde family’s story.

While speaking to THR, the showrunner teased a promising deeper dive into its concepts,

I always want closure. I don’t want to feel messed with. I want to feel like, “OK, that was the end.” So hopefully people will feel closure by the end — whether they like it or not, I don’t know. In terms of tone, we’re going deeper into the family and their bonds. Is family the ultimate bond? Is friendship? Is marriage? At what point is it almost unhealthy to stay, even if you love somebody? We’re going to delve into that with Marty and Wendy. Hopefully, the back half will still be fun and exciting, but also really emotional for the Byrdes and Ruth.

When asked whether Marty and Wendy really love each other, Mundy replied that they did. However, he did add, “That doesn’t necessarily mean they should be together or stay together…”

The series has always revolved around such themes as the characters deal with drama, emotions, deaths, drug cartels, and money laundering.

The way part 1 ended, Ruth will most likely be out for revenge following Wyatt’s death. She might have a confrontation with Javi.

As part 1 never addressed the car crash after the flash-forward, the Byrdes’ fates are still up in the air. It’ll be to see how all the characters’ subplots tie in for the perfect closure.

Although Netflix has not released a trailer for season 4 part 2 yet, the official logline reads,

Marty and Wendy are rid of Helen and climb to the top of Navarro’s empire. They find another opportunity to get out of the Ozarks but some past sins won’t stay buried and the most dangerous threats come from blood.

Ozark season 4 part 2 is expected to drop sometime later this year. It’s not an unusual strategy if we were to look at Money Heist, Netflix’s other big series that reached its ending last December; the streamer only kept a gap of 3 months between its two-part finale.
