Peacemaker Episode 5 Ending Explained: Is it the End for Adebayo?

Peacemaker Episode 5, titled Monkey Dory, has a big monkey and almost no peace. It’s a bloodbath as Chris gets over his cold feet and blows away a lot of minds—literally.

As Episode 4 revealed that Murn was a Butterfly, Episode 5 ended with Adebayo finding it out herself, thanks to Peacemaker’s cool new helmet, and then resulting in Murn attacking her.

However, Adebayo might not be the only one who has figured this out. As the Episode 6 promo shows, bright light like a car’s headlight reflects on Murn’s face while he prepares to attack her, and there’s a high chance the person coming to her rescue is Harcourt.

In Episode 5, when Murn debriefed the team after their return from the factory, Harcourt gave Murn a look, to which he questioned, “We cool?” She assured him that they were. But after fighting so many Butterflies up close, it’s possible she noticed something that could distinguish normal humans from Butterfly hosts.

Now that we know how Butterflies enter the human body (from the butthole—all other answers are invalid, sorry), Murn probably became a host when he fell unconscious after the blast at the Goff family house.

So maybe, an even wilder guess is that a Butterfly made her a host when she and Vigilante were locked inside the room with Charlie the super-gorilla, and now, one Butterfly has recognized another.

However, that might defeat the theory of her jumping in to protect Adebayo, so we’ll just patiently have to wait for the reveal next Thursday.

The only people from the team who, for sure, aren’t Butterflies are—Adebayo because Peacemaker looked at her with x-ray vision, Vigilante because all of his orifices are covered due to his suit, and Peacemaker cause, well, he’s Peacemaker.

Although, Murn and Harcourt being Butterflies might not be a threat in itself. The Episode 6 promo showed Peacemaker’s hostage Butterfly make a peace symbol on the jar, meaning there might be more to them than just “alien invaders.”

Case in point—Judomaster was about to tell Peacemaker that Butterflies are not what he thinks they are when Adebayo shot him before he could finish the sentence. (Even though Adebayo isn’t a Butterfly, she definitely is, what one would call, a snake or a rat.)

Now, Adebayo has successfully planted the journal in Peacemaker’s trailer. With the police now having a search warrant, we might soon find out what Amanda Waller has planned for the anti-hero.

(Prediction: It’s possibly something that frames Chris for the murder of his brother.)

The promo clip also sets up the series’ main fight between Peacemaker and The White Dragon, where Chris will finally have to face his daddy issues head-on.

Peacemaker is now streaming on HBO Max with new episodes on Thursdays.
