Peacemaker Trailer: Daddy Issues and Introspection Meets Pure Chaos!

Peacemaker’s full-length trailer is here! With gunshots, crude humor and a teensy bit of existential crisis, it could shape up to be a delightful addition to the DCEU.

We open up with the MO of how Peacemaker is a trained killer who will do anything to uphold his version of “justice.” He’s now been recruited to serve on another off-grid task force that eliminates targets known as “butterflies.”

Although we don’t go into detail about the butterflies, it’s suspected that these are individuals with superpowers that pose a threat to society at large.

Although Peacemaker is set after The Suicide Squad, it feels like we’ll be fed some good ole origin story too. The abusive father, Peacemaker’s own hesitation at killing, and how he landed in prison — all tease at diving into his past.

We also see more of his new squad, who, in between missions, killing bad guys and rescue operations, manage to keep the tone light, witty, and at times, ridiculous.

Danielle Brooks’ Leota comes in strong to spearhead the otherwise dysfunctional team. Through her, it is also hinted that there is more to their missions than the team knows about.

Of course, there’s one qualm raised, which is about Vigilante’s character being made into a caricature. But a new spin is what you get when you put things through a James Gunn lens.

(If you want a more serious/accurate version, there’s always Arrowverse’s Vigilante to watch).

I’m not going to lie, I went into Peacemaker with a bias of completely disliking his character. After all, he’s likened to be the douche version of Captain America, and him killing Flag left a bad taste in my mouth too.

But the trailer has definitely softened skeptics like me. As a YouTube comment puts it perfectly, a crazy amount of exciting, poignant moments are revealed but there are no major spoilers.

It’s the perfect dosage to get you invested in the show. Peacemaker will debut on HBO Max on January 13.
