Rick Riordan Shares Percy Jackson Season 2 Confirmation

The upcoming Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians has wrapped casting and is almost over with season 1’s production. The series, expected to drop sometime in late 2023 or early 2024, is one of the most anticipated book-to-screen adaptations, generating the same level of excitement as Harry Potter and LOTR.

Ahead of season 1’s filming, Riordan has been very sure of Disney+ renewing the show for another season. As he updates the PJO fandom on the final casting of Zeus and Poseidon, the author also confirms season 2 is a sure thing. You can read his full quote below:

If you haven’t seen a particular god or demigod announced, that’s because they don’t appear in the season and won’t be cast until we start the subsequent seasons, which means any of those announcements are probably at least a year away. More later, demigods, but I am pleased to tell you we are in a very good place as we look ahead to a (not-yet-greenlit-but-fully-anticipated) season two!

Riordan’s Percy Jackson series and other spinoffs span across more than 30 books, and thus there’s no shortage of content for the TV adaptation.

The core actors are also close to the age the characters were in the books, giving them the chance to grow up while filming the series, just like the Harry Potter characters, which gives a vital authenticity to the series.

Riordan’s trust in Disney+ green lighting the series for subsequent seasons after season 1 is hopeful and it makes sense when there is such a big fandom backing it.

A season 2 renewal seems in the bag, unless something goes drastically wrong like it did for the Percy Jackson films. But with Riordan’s close inclusion during writing and filming, we don’t think the TV series will face the same fate as the film series.

Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson

Season 1 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has a lot to cover in terms of post-production, one of their major concerns being CGI as is the case for many fantasy series. But we’re hopeful just like Riordan that season 2’s confirmed update by Disney+ will follow soon after the season 1 premiere.
