How To Watch Mission Impossible Movies Easy Watch Order Guide

The Mission Impossible franchise has defined its own brand of spy action-thriller over the last two decades. Every time I hear the name, I can already hear the music and Tom Cruise speeding through a crowd in pursuit of a “package.”

Right from the very first film that came out way back in 1996, the film had some of the most edgy and stylized action sequences that gave you all the adrenaline rush you need. Despite six films in the series, the franchise still hasn’t gotten stale, which is quite fascinating to me as an audience. Here’s why.

When it comes to Mission Impossible films, we know what we are in for even before the movie begins. The tropes are all too familiar. Tom Cruise still looks confused and disoriented every time he crashes a car, bike, or helicopter, and it’s not over until there are like 2 seconds on the timer before the bomb explodes.

We know it all, and yet we are left astounded every single time. It reminds me of how franchises such as the Fast and Furious have managed to go on for so long but have long lost that flare.

Alright, alright! I’ll stop fanboying over the series and keep my biases aside. But, if you haven’t watched the series, you should because there’s nothing more entertaining than Tom Cruise messing up a mission and trying to fix it.

Here’s the complete watch order guide with all the films in order, the streaming platforms they will be available on, and more. Are you ready? Your mission should you choose to accept it.

You saw that coming, didn’t you?

Mission Impossible is a six-part franchise, and all movies can be watched in the release order. The spy action thriller makes up for the perfect weekend binge and is available for rent and purchase on Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, and iTunes.

Release Order | Watch Order

With the Mission Impossible franchise, the chronological order is also the release order for the films. While the movies can surely be watched and enjoyed as standalone ones, they are loosely tied together in an extensive narrative.

For instance, the villain of Rogue Nation plays a pivotal role even in Fallout, and the plot for Fallout is derived from that of Rogue Nation. Some bits tie in Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) character arc from previous films to Mission Impossible III.

Here’s the complete list of films

  • Mission: Impossible (1996)
  • Mission: Impossible II (2000)
  • Mission: Impossible III (2006)
  • Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011)
  • Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015)
  • Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018)

There are two more films all set to release in 2022 and 2023. The best order to watch all the movies is the release order since it shows character arc continuity and adds an emotional undertone to the existing pressure of saving the world. Alright, that might have sounded a tad bit pretentious, but you get the idea, right?

However, here’s a little tidbit. Did you know that originally Mission Impossible was a television series created back in the 1960s? It still intrigues me how much franchise has evolved since then.

The franchise ran for 7 seasons and even had a film in its name. Later on, the franchise was carried forward by another show of the same name and was set 15 years after the events of the first show.

You can know the complete watch order for that in the link below:

The entire franchise runs for about 13 hours, with 6 films in the series. You can either binge on all of them over the weekend or watch one film every week. Since the movies aren’t too heavy with drama, they can make up for a great binge for your weekend.

Where To Watch

While no streaming platform has all the six movies in one place, you can still find them on Google Play and iTunes for $51.99 and $69.99, respectively. You can also buy the films from Amazon Prime Video for $34.99 per movie.
