How To Watch The Walking Dead Easy Watch Order Guide

The Walking Dead franchise is every zombie lover’s wet dream, and I do not say that perversely. The apocalyptic world they’ve created not only fills us with terror but also sucks us into this feeling of moroseness.

The world involves spin-offs, special webisodes, and even films. In fact, there are quite a few things that we have to unpack here, and no, it’s not for the faint-hearted!

The Walking Dead franchise follows a fairly straightforward timeline despite the various spin-offs, specials, webisodes, and movies. Most of these can be watched as standalone content, and the only place where the worlds significantly meet is between Fear The Walking Dead Season 4 and The Walking Dead Season 8. So make sure you watch FTWD season 4 after TWD season 8.

As our usual routine, I will be giving the release order first and then the chronological watch order. Don’t worry. I won’t take much of your time and get straight to it.

1. Release Order

The Walking Dead franchise began in 2010 with its main show, which ended this year in April. Through this decade, we’ve been witness to some of the most terrifying visuals, the most gut-wrenching ends to story arcs, and so much more.

Here’s the complete list of all titles in the franchise in their release order.

  • The Walking Dead: World Beyond | 2020 – Present

Though the main show is ending, for now, its companion series Fear The Walking Dead has been renewed for a seventh season and isn’t ending any time soon. As for The Walking Dead World Beyond, a second season is slated to release in October, which could be the final season for this limited series.

Besides all this, two spin-offs – a movie and a series have been confirmed. They will explore the storylines of Rick Grimes, Carol, and Daryl. The release date or title for these are unknown.

2. Chronological Watch Order

Though there’s a timeline-oriented watch order, most of the stories are standalone. So sticking to the watch order isn’t all that necessary.

However, as the timeline goes, the first three seasons of Fear The Walking Dead serves as a prequel to the main show. After that, you’ll need to watch season 4 of Fear The Walking Dead after season 8 of The Walking Dead.

4. Where To Watch The Walking Dead Franchise

Rick Grimes

The entire Walking Dead franchise is available to stream on AMC+, including The Walking Dead’s finale season. You’ll find the webisodes, special mini-series, and all seasons of Fear The Walking Dead on AMC+.

Besides this, there is a talk show called Talking Dead where the creators discuss every episode of the show and give you a sneak peek at the behind-the-scenes. You can watch that for free on the AMC mobile app.

5. Run-Time And Binge Duration

There are a total of 333 episodes, including all of The Walking Dead season finale’s 24 episodes. Each episode, on average, is an hour-long, and hence it’d take you 333 hours to binge all of the franchise. So I guess it’s about time you started so that you are just in time to watch the season finale as it airs.

6. Conclusion

Fear The Walking Dead

The best watch order to experience this franchise starts with The Walking Dead main show, followed by its spin-offs such as Fear The Walking Dead (Prequel), The Walking Dead Webisodes, and more.

This is because the main show serves better as a gripping and engaging introduction to this world of zombies compared to the others. Moreover, the events of the prequel or other series don’t really overlap or intersect with the main show or each other. This means there won’t be much room for confusion and the timeline wouldn’t matter as much.

So suit yourself, but be warned, there’s a bloodbath waiting for you!

7. About The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead is a neo-western horror drama that is based on the comic book series of the same name written by Robert Kirkman. It currently stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and others.

Rick Grimes, a sheriff’s deputy, wakes up from a coma to find that the world has just gone through a zombie apocalypse. He soon realizes that the world is divided into the zombies- the ‘walkers’- and a group of survivors who will do anything to survive.

The recent season, that is season 11, will adapt material from issues #175–193 of the comic book series and focuses on the group’s encounter with the Commonwealth, a large network of communities that has advanced equipment and almost fifty thousand survivors living in their different settlements.
