How To Watch Every X-Men Movie? Easy Watch Order Guide

The pilot theatrical release of X-Men two decades ago saw the mutants being labeled as freaks. They were forced to determine how they would respond to the prejudiced world.

Telekinesis, gnawing claws, bridling metal, breathing fire, and other oddities would all be rendered meaningless if they failed to set up an X-ample for such a world where the ordinary and gifted humans could live together peacefully. This was the task that dawned upon the elite force of experienced fighters, the X-Men.

Since then, X-Men have been trying to prove their innocence by regularly helping the government in averting some catastrophic threats.

There have been thirteen feature films till now. And if you don’t see them in an intended order, half of the time you won’t know what’s going on. So, I shall recommend you two watch orders below.

Find the one which suits you best to binge watch this entire tale of heroes with extraordinary abilities.

1. Release Order

Comic book fans finally had something to cheer for with the release of the first X-Men movie in 2000. This solid start paved the way for the whole franchise. It succeeded in rapidly introducing some key mutant characters of the X-Men universe.

With the spinoff The New Mutants, the familiar superhero story was reinvented in a new light with a younger cast. Despite being a big of a departure from the standard X-Men movies, it was as successful as other additions to the franchise.

Well, this order is a bit messed up since the movies haven’t been arranged according to when they happened. So, sometimes it would be difficult to understand certain story arcs. Therefore, I present to you this sequential watch order:

It’s time to hop back to the 1960s for a proper origin story of mutants with X-Men: First Class.

One movie I’d like to give a special highlight here is Days of Future Past. Its timeline is a bit tricky. Though it is partially set in 1973, some of the action scenes also take place in the future, in the year 2023. So, either you can watch it just after X-Men: First Class or can follow my initial list above.

Logan was a sort of dramatic finale to the X-Men series. Set in 2029, most of our X-Men heroes are out of commission by now. It is a brilliant film, and a befitting conclusion to the X-Men series.

5. About X-Men (MCU)

X-Men is an American superhero film series based on the fictional superhero team of the same name, who originally appeared in a series of comic books created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and published by Marvel Comics.

20th Century Fox obtained the film rights to the characters in 1994, and after numerous drafts, Bryan Singer was hired to direct the first film, released in 2000, and its sequel, X2 (2003), while the third installment of the original trilogy, X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), was directed by Brett Ratner.

In March 2019, Marvel Studios obtained the film rights to X-Men after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox. In October 2020, the films in the X-Men series, along with the Fantastic Four films, were rebranded as Marvel Legacy Movies on Disney+.
