Here’s Everything to Know about Netflix’s ‘Ragnarok’ Season 3

Ragnarok Season 2 premiered on Netflix on May 27, 2021, and fans are already asking for another season. Things are definitely looking good for them as Ragnarok is currently on the third spot on Netflix US top ten shows.

“We’ve been very happy with how well Ragnarok’s been received by both critics and fans alike,” a Netflix representative told Small Screen. However, there was no news whether Season 3 has been greenlit by Netflix or not.

However, according to the website, an anonymous source close to the project said that Netflix has already given them the go-ahead on the new season. But the release date would depend on when the season officially goes into production.

Ragnarok is a coming-of-age story that mixes Norse mythology with teen drama and environmental crisis. In the fictional town of Edda, Norway, giants aka the Jutul family continue to destroy the earth by letting chemical waste pollute the town’s drinking water.

Season 1 focuses on Magne’s return to Edda and an old lady Wenche awakening his power within and revealing that he is the reincarnation of the Norse God Thor.

Season 2 introduced Iman Reza, a charming girl from his school as the Goddess Freya, and Harry, the town mechanic as Týr, the god of war. King of all Gods, Odin is awakened in Wotan.

As for the plot details for Season 3, the ending of Season 2 sets up possibilities for quite a few different sub-plots. In the finale, Magne uses Mjölnir for the first time to incinerate the car Ran and Fjor are in, but they manage to escape in time.

This strikes fear in the Jutuls as they realize that now that he has his hammer, Magne’s transformation into Thor is complete.

We also learn that Laurits is the trickster god Loki himself, and it is difficult to tell where his true loyalty lies. When Wotan Wagner shuns Odin, Laurits injects himself with his blood, becoming half-god half-giant, and later gives birth to the Midgard Serpent.

The finale ends with Laurits releasing his child, Jörmungandr (Midgard Serpent), into the lake so that it can grow stronger.

In Norse Mythology, Jörmungandr is a snake who lives in the ocean, and Thor is his enemy. Laurits tells Ran and Fjor to spare his life as he has “the only thing that can kill Thor.

It has been established in Season 2 that Magne and Signy both like each other. This indicates another possible theory that Signy might become the goddess Sif, Thor’s wife in Norse Mythology.

Seeing how things ended with Magne and Saxa, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Thor’s half-god half-giant child, Magni, is introduced in Season 3. Magni is the son of Thor and the Jötunn Járnsaxa in the mythology.

Season 3 will probably have the big duel between Magne and Fjor, who wants to avenge Vidar’s accidental death by Magne during a fight in Season 2.

If Season 3 happens, it’ll star the series regulars along with new members if they decide to introduce new characters and Gods for the final battle of Ragnarok.

Ragnarok’s Season 1 came out in January 2020 and Season 2 followed 18 months later in May 2021.

Given that there aren’t any COVID-related delays, Season 3 can be expected to drop sometime in late 2022 if/when Netflix renews it. Just like its previous two seasons, Season 3 might also consist of six episodes.

Ragnarok Seasons 1 and 2 are now available to stream on Netflix.
