Avatar to Re-release in Theaters Three Months Before the Sequel

The decade-long wait for Avatar 2 will soon end when it releases in the theaters on December 16 this year. But before that, Disney is re-releasing Avatar for the audience to reel the audience in with the eccentric wonders of Pandora once again.

Producer Jon Landau announced Avatar’s re-release hitting the theaters in September this year at CinemaCon 2022 ongoing in Las Vegas.

The movie will not be an ordinary re-release but a mastered version. It will have remastered sound and picture. It will also have the Disney logo replacing the 20th Century Fox logo, as the former acquired the latter recently.

Avatar 1 will be released in the theaters on September 23, three months before the sequel is scheduled for release.

The title and release date for the highly-awaited Avatar sequel were unveiled simultaneously. Called Avatar: The Way of Water, the movie is set a decade after the events of the first movie.

The sequel will explore the gorgeous landscapes of Pandora and the Sully family’s struggles. The audience will see Sam Worthington’s Jake and Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri as parents navigating life with their kids.

Description for the sequel states that it will take the audience through the leads’ parental life, their children, their tragedies, their efforts to keep each other safe, and their troubles.

Avatar 1 stretched cinematic boundaries to deliver a masterpiece, and Way of Water is expected to do the same.

Technology has come a long way since the first movie was released more than a decade ago in 2009 and the world’s waiting with bated breath for James Cameron to stretch it again.

Meanwhile, Landau had explained in an interview with Total Film Magazine, via Slash Film, that Avatar 2 is the “strength of the story”—a larger epic that director James Cameron is building.

The producer even shared about the delay, talking about the next four movies, until Avatar 5, of how they have a larger connected story arc.

“The scripts are the blueprint from which we work. So a large portion of our time was writing… with the challenge that each of those four scripts had to individually resolve itself in a story that concludes with a big emotional resolution—but when you look at them as a whole, the connected story arc of all four movies creates an even larger epic saga.”

The epic Avatar: The Way of Water will finally hit theaters on December 16, 2022.
