Reva Was Originally Killed off in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Writer Shares

A return to Star Wars by Ewan McGregor revealed plenty of new revelations regarding the franchise’s established canon. In addition to featuring rematches between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader, the Disney+ series also saw Kenobi help save a young Leia Organa and encounter the Inquisitors.

They are dangerous Jedi hunters under Vader’s command, and Obi-Wan Kenobi introduced the Third Sister, Moses Ingram, as a new Inquisitor.

Reva played a pivotal role in the show, as she kidnapped Leia in order to draw him out of hiding. It was intriguing to see her track down the legendary Jedi as a way to prove herself to Darth Vader, whom she secretly hated as a Jedi youngling during Order 66.

Since Reva is absent from the canon materials after Obi-Wan Kenobi, many expected Reva to die during the series. In Episode 5, Reva survives despite Darth Vader stabbing her. This even extends to the finale.

Writer Stuart Beattie has now confirmed that the original script for Obi-Wan Kenobi included Darth Vader killing Reva in the end.

It has now been revealed that Reva’s death was initially intended to happen in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Stuart Beattie, who originally planned for Obi-Wan’s story to continue as a trilogy, had a very different approach to Moses Ingram’s role as the Inquisitor.

In an interview with The Direct, he revealed that he developed Reva while writing Obi-Wan Kenobi’s script and that Darth Vader killed Reva originally with his lightsaber.

As Beattie points out, Reva’s death is far from a coincidence. Once Reva saves the Jedi, she claims to have killed Obi-Wan, ending Vader’s search for Kenobi.

Yeah, killed by Vader at the end of it. Yeah, I wanted this story, I wanted her story to end. I wanted Reva to play her part in the Kenobi-Vader story, which was, essentially, at the end, she was the one that allowed Vader, basically told Vader to stop hunting Kenobi. You know, she ended the obsession Vader had with Kenobi.

Despite Lucasfilm changing Obi-Wan Kenobi from a potential movie trilogy to a limited series on Disney+, Beattie’s script remains the basis for this adventure. While many of his ideas made it into the final product, killing Reva wasn’t one of them.

There is no indication of whether or not Lucasfilm ever intended to include Reva’s death in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show.

The ending of the show was allegedly altered to leave her alive. Nonetheless, not killing Reva was just one way that the series deviated from the original plan.

For example, in his version, Obi-Wan told Reva that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker, while the opposite happens in the show.

The ambiguous fate of Reva in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s finale is one of the biggest questions for this season. The act of ruthlessness between Darth Vader and the Grand Inquisitor may have made more sense if Reva had died before Vader and the Grand Inquisitor combined.

The character and her arc were enjoyed by most Obi-Wan Kenobi viewers. Thanks to Lucasfilm’s decision to alter Obi-Wan Kenobi’s original scripts and not kill Reva, viewers might get to see the character again in future projects.
