PJO Author Teases Major Book Monster in Percy Jackson S1

Season 1 of the upcoming Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians is currently under production with major characters already cast, but there’s more news to share! Rick Riordan, author of the fantasy novel series on which the show is based, has revealed that the Minotaur from the first book will make an appearance in Season 1.

Season 1 will adapt the first book in the Percy Jackson and The Olympians series, The Lightning Thief, with detailed scenes featuring the demigod Percy Jackson and his adventures.

The Lightning Thief captures the story of a 12-year-old, Percy Jackson, who learns that he is a demigod, spawn of the Greek God of the Sea, Poseidon. The show, like the book, will capture his adventures at Camp Half-Blood and his quest to save his mother from Hades, the God of Hell, with his new friends Annabeth and Grover while coming to terms with his legacy.

The books have already been adapted as films, mainly the first two books, The Lightning Thief (2010) and Sea of Monsters (2013). The movies starred Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson, Catherine Keener, and Jake Abel.

But this adaptation was heavily criticized by fans of the books with concerns about casting, story, and too many changes from the books.

With the revival of the books as a series under Disney and with Riordan’s supervision during production, fans have high hopes for this series to give them the deserving live-action of their favorite books.

The series has already cast The Adam Project star kid Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, Aryan Simhadri as Grover, Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson, Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse LaRue, and more.

Rick Riordan has already revealed that the early footage is closer to his vision and the books, too. On his website, Rick merely mentions that The Minotaur, the second monster Percy fought before learning of his lineage, will make an appearance in Season 1. In the books, the Minotaur had attacked Percy and his mother, Sally, as Grover led them to the safety of Camp Half-Blood.

And now, it’s back to TV land. I’m off for another exciting day of production. I think we may be meeting the Minotaur today (who, by the way, also makes an appearance in The Divine Comedy).

The first season will consist of eight episodes, and the Minotaur’s update clubbed with early footage at the location, which can only be Camp Half-Blood, can confirm that the series will stick to the books. The Minotaur incident remains one of Percy’s most significant conquests in the book series, and thus his appearance in Season 1 has appeased fans.

Of course, the road to completion is quite long for the Disney+ series right now, but the early stages prove that it will be closer to the fandom’s dream of a more justifying and deserving adaptation. More updates will soon surface as casting is still underway, and Rick Riordan will surely stay on till the end of production.
