Sam Raimi on How Doctor Strange Will Evolve in Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is undoubtedly going to change the whole course of the MCU when it comes out in two weeks, but before changing the universe, it’s crucial that the man responsible for it goes through some personal changes as well.

That is exactly what director Sam Raimi has teased for Stephen Strange. The mystical superhero will have a lot of character development compared to his previous appearances in the MCU.

The reveal came when Raimi, alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen, appeared at a press conference in Berlin to promote the upcoming film. Doctor Strange Updates on Twitter posted the clip of Raimi talking about Doctor Strange’s growth as a character,

“He’s grown a bit throughout the course of the Avengers movies, I’ve seen. I think at the beginning of this film, he starts as a very self-assured—perhaps too much so—person who feels he’s the one that’s best in control of all the decisions. It’s safest that way… He has the most faith in himself, and not so much in other people. And I think in this picture, this little chapter in his life, he learns to let go a little bit. That it’s not all about him [and] that he can trust others.”

As Strange returns to the MCU just months after his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the anticipation grows further to see how he fixes a multiversal mess with the help of the Scarlet Witch, Sorcerer Supreme Wong, and newcomer America Chavez.

It’ll surely be a wild ride with many unpredictable changes of hearts and intentions, especially in a situation where it feels like no one can be trusted.

In other news, fans have been in a turmoil of sorts ever since Bruce Campbell, who has a short cameo/mystery role in Multiverse of Madness, revealed that Marvel made Raimi change a few things to make the sequel fit better in the MCU continuity.

“The Marvel guys, they make eight of these movies at the same time, so they’re always updating storylines. So, my buddy Sam has had to add scenes that [Marvel] told him he had to shoot, and he’s removed scenes that no longer apply. So until May rolls around, I don’t think even Benedict Cumberbatch knows if he’s in this movie or not.”

However, it’s not a big concern, given that Raimi himself had previously stated that Marvel had given him a lot of creative freedom with the project.

So if fans were to find a reason to start their own campaign similar to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse, they only have to wait a short while before they can decide for themselves how the changes impacted the film.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness makes its theatrical debut on May 6.
