HOTD S2 Episode, Blood and Cheese, Will Not Disappoint, Assures Writer

House of the Dragon season 1 writer, Sara Hess, talks about an upcoming season 2 episode, “Blood and Cheese” which will feature a dark, graphic and brutal revenge story.

The Game of Thrones prequel premiered on HBO Max this year and wrapped up its first season in October 2022. The series is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It follows the rise and fall of the Targaryen dynasty along with the events that led to the Targaryen civil war, the Dance of Dragons.

The first season ended with the death of Rhaenyra’s second son, Lucerys Velaryon in the hands of Aemond Targaryen and the unlawful coronation of Aegon II as King. Luke’s death marks the beginning of the Dance of Dragons, which will flesh out more in the next season.

Season 2 is expected to arrive in 2024 and is still in its early stages of development. Though very little is known about season 2 as of now, details about one significant episode have recently surfaced.

According to Variety, House of the Dragon season 2 will have an episode dedicated to “Blood and Cheese”. In Fire and Blood, Blood and Cheese refer to two of Daemon Targaryen’s trusted acquaintances, whom he assigned to take revenge on the Hightowers.

Blood and Cheese took revenge on Alicent Hightower and her family in response to the death of Lucerys Velaryon in the hands of her son, Aemond. They killed Aegon and Helaena’s firstborn son, Jaeherys, in cold blood. According to Sara Hess, fans will “not be disappointed”, which means they are in for a bloody and brutal tale of revenge.

Blood and Cheese were two assassins who were hired by Mysaria to kill Aegon II’s firstborn son and the apparent heir to the Iron Throne, Prince Jaeherys. Blood and Cheese sneak into the Red Keep and force Helaena to choose any one of her children whom they’d murder.

Helaena Targaryen

Helaena asks them to kill her instead, but they do not listen. Instead, they ask her to choose one of her sons or they’d rape her daughter, Jaehaera. Having no option, Helaena chooses her youngest son, Maelor. However, Blood and Cheese chops off her eldest son, Jaeherys’ head instead and escapes with it.

The GOT franchise has had many tales of bloody revenge before. “The Red Wedding” (season 3, episode 9) from Game of Thrones remains one of the bloodiest and most shocking episodes in the history of the franchise. However, “Blood and Cheese” might give it tough competition.

While “The Red Wedding” featured several deaths, “Blood and Cheese” will be more of a personal revenge story. It will feature only one very disturbing death, but it might turn out to be more hard-hitting because of the personal nature of the story.

The Red Wedding

Moreover, “Blood and Cheese” will feature the death of a six-year-old child, while the Red Wedding included mostly adults. Innocent children paying the price of their parents’ misdeeds will definitely be more heart-wrenching to watch.
