Showrunners of School Spirits Tease “Lots of Thoughts” for Season 2

Paramount’s recent supernatural teen drama, School Spirits, premiered on the platform in March 2023 and quickly gained positive reviews from critics and audiences. The show, starring Cobra Kai’s Peyton List in the lead, follows Maddie’s story in the afterlife as she investigates the reason for her death.

Being stuck in high school even after your death sure sucks, but Maddie finds other ghosts in the in-between, and with their help, she comes to a shocking conclusion in the season 1 finale.

While Paramount has not confirmed the show’s renewal for a second season, the creators and showrunner of School Spirits have given us some insight into the potential new season. Speaking with J-14, showrunner Oliver Goldstick and co-creator Nate Trinrud confirmed they’re “hoping for” season 2 and have “lots of thoughts” for the next instalment.

Mr. Martin’s Secret Revealed in Season 1

Nate: Oh, we got them. We have lots of thoughts.

Oliver: We can’t share them. We’ll have to kill you. Hopefully, there will be a season two. We’re hoping for that. Cause we’ve got some wonderful places to take the show.

Season 1 revealed that Mr. Martin had a hand in messing with the dead students at Split High School. No, no, he is not a necrophile, cause eww but he has been experimenting with the spirits stuck in the veil on school grounds and has been aware that Maddie wasn’t dead from the beginning.

That’s right; the season 1 finale revealed that Maddie having no recollection of her death wasn’t just a fluke – she’s not dead at all, and another spirit is currently inhabiting her body. Season 2 will probably explain why Janet stole Maddie’s body and how the blonde teen will get it back now that the other spirit intends to flee town with her new body.

Spencer Macpherson, who plays Xavier in the show, also commented on the position at which season 1 leaves the audience and how that works in favor of a potential series renewal.

It’s a tough question to answer without giving any of the awesome reveals away in season one. But I definitely think it leaves off in a position where it will leave the audience wanting more, and I really, really hope that we get to do that.
