‘Sex and the City’ Reboot to Include COVID-19 in Storyline

The limited HBO reboot for Sex and the City will include COVID-19 as a part of the storyline, according to star Sarah Jessica Parker. The reboot will see Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis reprising their roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York, respectively.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Sarah Jessica Parker said that the cast is excited to receive their scripts from the showrunner Michael Patrick King. He is reportedly working with an all-woman team of writers.

“[The writers’ team is] incredibly diverse in a really exciting way,” Parker told Vanity Fair. With a diverse team of writers, we can expect to see a wider perspective of the world, lifestyle, and politics.

In the reboot series (titled And Just Like That…), as the writers will include the pandemic in the storyline, the characters’ individual storylines are still unknown.

“[COVID-19 will] obviously be part of the storyline, because that’s the City [these characters] live in. And how has that changed relationships once friends disappear? I have great faith that the writers are going to examine it all.”

But the reboot will not include Kim Cattrall, who has played Samantha in the original run of Sex and the City (1998-2004). She has openly expressed that she wants to move on from the old series and explore more roles as an artist.

The series will follow the leading ladies, now in their 50s, as they tackle love and friendship, and navigate their lives through the busy streets of New York City. And now that we know that the pandemic will be an included plotline, we may get to see how their friendship braves through the pressure of the lockdown.

Sarah Jessica Parker posted a trailer for the reboot series on Instagram. Check it out below:
