Simu Liu Thanks Everyone for Making History in a Touching Letter

Disney’s Shang Chi famed actor Simu Liu wore his heart on his sleeves in an inspiring letter uploaded on Instagram.

The Canadian actor was best known for his role in the CBC show Kim’s Convenience. Until the announcement of MCU’s Shang Chi, which has now made him the face of Asian representation in Marvel, as it is the first-ever MCU movie featuring an Asian lead.

Liu uploaded a heartwarming letter thanking the entire cast and crew of the movie, along with special mentions and fans. His passionate letter was shared as the caption of artwork by digital artist JARVIS.

The artwork stars Simu Liu as Shang Chi, split-kicking bad guys, while two kids look up to him as a Batman toy rests on the ground. He shared it with the caption: “Midnight we get a new hero #representation #shangchi,” as the movie went on floors on September 3, 2021.

Re-sharing the artwork, Liu started his letter by talking about the importance of Asian representation. He called Shang Chi a “celebration” that Marvel “bestowed upon all of us, across all communities.”

Liu thanked director Destin Daniel Cretton for his immense hard work and a few of his co-stars, Awkwafina, Benedict Wong, Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Michelle Yeoh, among others. He ended the letter by saying, “Today, we finally make history,” an emotion the star had previously echoed.

Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings opened to favorable criticism and praises, even from fellow MCU stars, Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and others. The film is applauded for its Asian culture representation and exploration.

Liu had promised the movie to be making history when he called out Disney’s CEO Bob Chapek’s comments on Shang Chi being an experiment on Twitter.

He firmly stated, “We are not an experiment” before ending the tweet with: “I’m fired the f**k up to make history on September September 3.”

It looks like Liu’s premonition has finally turned into a reality for countless Asian people across the globe, making it the start of something new.

Disney’s Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings released in theaters on September 3, 2021.
