Showtime Revives ‘Ray Donovan’ Movie a Year after Canceling It

A Ray Donovan movie is now in the works at Showtime, starring Liev Schreiber. A year after the show’s surprising cancellation, Showtime returns with a feature-length movie in development to wrap things up.

Actor Liev Schreiber will reprise the title role, alongside Jon Voight and Kerris Dorsey. Schreiber is co-writing the script with David Hollander. Hollander will also handle the position of the director. Hollander and Schreiber will also act as co-producers along with Mark Gordon, Bryan Zuriff, and Lou Fusaro.

Season 7 of the series left off with Mickey (Jon Voight) in the wind and Ray determined to find and stop him before he can inflict more massacres. The movie will combine the present-day consequence from the Donovan/Sullivan dispute with Ray and Mickey’s origin anecdote from 30 years back.

According to Slashfilm, Showtime has declared that a Ray Donovan feature-length movie is now in evolution and will begin production later this year in New York.

“When Ray Donovan went off our air after seven great seasons, we heard from so many of its loyal fans that they were not ready to say goodbye to Ray and the wonderfully dysfunctional Donovan clan. And so, for them, we are delighted that Liev and David are creating a thrilling new chapter of this iconic series.”

Like Ray Donovan, Deadwood went through the same procedure after being canceled after its third season. HBO revived it for a two-hour movie more than a decade later. Season 7 of Ray Donovan finished off on a cliffhanger as Donovan was suffering from psychological guilt. He ended the Sullivan battle but started one against his own with his father Mickey, portrayed by Jon Voight, who is presently on the run. It is unpredictable what incidents will occur or what queries will be answered, but fans have finally got their wishes fulfilled.
