Pete Davidson Rumoured to Host 2022 Oscars To Woo Younger Viewers

Pete Davidson, most prominently known for Saturday Night Live, might hop onboard to save the Academy Awards as the organization tries different strategies to get back its lost viewership.

According to Page Six, sources have revealed that this move comes as the Academy hopes to attract a younger demographic and the actor/comedian is the person who can do just that.

He gets a demographic that is hard to get. He is in a good space, his career is doing well, and he is on the rise. He is a sex symbol, unlikely, but he is big with a certain generation.

Pete has always attracted a lot of attention due to his long list of attractive women he’s dated, which includes Ariana Grande, Phoebe Dynevor, and the latest Kim Kardashian.

The source also added that the NBC New Year’s Eve special Davidson hosted with Miley Cyrus brought in 6.3 million viewers.

Craig Erwich, Hulu Originals & ABC Entertainment president, announced that the awards will have a host this year during his TCA press event.

After three years of the ceremony being held without a host, Deadline reported that The Oscars might even have multiple hosts this year, with Glenn Weiss returning to direct for the seventh time in a row.

The report adds that EP Will Packer and the Academy have reached out to big Hollywood names like Dwayne Johnson and Chris Rock for a telecast that might have three celebrities hosting different segments.

Everyone’s favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man Tom Holland is another potential favorite as the actor had previously told The Hollywood Reporter that the Academy had reached out to him.

Jimmy Kimmel was the last to host the event in 2017 and 2018. Kevin Hart was set to host in 2019 but backed out when old controversial tweets resurfaced. And hence followed two consecutive years of the ceremony going “host-less.”

As the viewership and ratings have continued to slip these past three years more than ever, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is trying different tactics to gain back its lost charm and popularity.

The 94th Oscars Awards ceremony is set for March 27, with nominations arriving on February 8. The event will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and televised live on ABC.
