‘Snyder Cut’ Gets New Teaser, Official Trailer out Valentine’s Day

After all these years, Justice League fans will finally get to see what the Snyder Cut will look like when the official trailer comes out on February 14. The beloved director Zack Snyder took to Twitter February 8 to give a 7-day warning to fans of the first official trailer of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Snyder also attached a short clip showing off pre-Cyborg Victor Stone as he makes an ultra slo-mo touchdown to Junkie XL’s unsettling new score.

The original background score by Junkie XL (a.k.a. Tom Holkenborg) for Justice League was one of the many things replaced in 2017 when Joss Whedon took over the post-production. As was the brutal cut down of the storyline of Victor Stone, aka, Cyborg, which Snyder had maintained was the heart of the plot.

The fact that Super Bowl season is on could be just one reason for Snyder’s choice of a clip featuring Stone playing football. But it could also mean the upcoming trailer is likely to focus on how the Snyder Cut will do justice to the Cyborg’s story.

Owing to his daughter’s death by suicide, Snyder was forced to exit Justice League to deal with the family tragedy when the film was still in post-production. Snyder’s replacement Joss Whedon made extensive changes to his vision, much to the chagrin of both the cast and the fans. When Whedon took over from Snyder, his edits largely diminished the parts of several characters of color, including Kiersey Clemons’ Iris West and Zheng Kai’s Ryan Choi.

Actor Ray Fisher, who plays Victor Stone, went on to say that the cuts were intentional and racist. Fisher had also called out the toxic and manipulative ways of Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon and was subsequently removed from the upcoming film, The Flash.

This is why Snyder’s decision to tease a pre-Cyborg Stone in the teaser is being taken as an unsaid assurance to reprise Fisher’s character with greater depth. Fisher had particularly disapproved of how Whedon handled his character in post-production. Now, Snyder seems to agree with him.

The expanded feature of Fisher’s character could also give hope to fans about the character returning to The Flash or other DC productions. But since the Cyborg actor also vowed not to work under DC Films president Walter Hamada ever, this could be the last we see of him. It is, however, a relief to see his character getting at least one proper feature in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

The 2017 film bombed at the box office, partly due to its inconsistency after Snyder’s exit and partly due to sheer lack of quality. It received quite the flak from the critics, too. Snyder fans then campaigned heavily for the original version in any form, until HBO was forced to oblige, and announced the Snyder Cut in 2020.

On February 14, fans will finally get to see the first glimpse of Zack Snyder’s original vision of Justice League.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League follows the Justice League—Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg—as they attempt to save the world from the catastrophic threat of Steppenwolf and his army of Parademons.
