Sonic the Hedgehog fans have been waiting with bated breaths to discover what happens next to their beloved Blue Blur. On May 20, a Twitter user Rocks The Squirrel [Ninja_Risu] shared the snapshot of the movie copyright that includes a synopsis of Sonic 2.
The summary teases a rematch between the Blue Blur and his nemesis Doctor Robotnik, along with the roles of Miles “Tails” Prower and Knuckles the Echidna. Knuckles is said to join forces with Robotnik, while Tails and Sonic form a fast friendship.
The film series is based on SEGA’s video game franchise of the same name that began with the eponymous 1991 title. The film sequel will see the return of Ben Schwartz as the titular hero alongside Jim Carrey as Robotnik, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter.

Set photos have revealed Knuckles’ visual appearance in the film, and Aquaman star Jason Momoa has reportedly been approached to voice Knuckles.
The first movie ended up with Tails approaching Green Hills, and echidnas played an essential part in the film’s opening. Sonic was different from the video game plot, but Sonic 2 sounds a little more faithful to the games.
The official synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 reads as follows:
“After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands. Jeff Fowler is the director and the film stars Jim Carrey, James Marsden, and Ben Schwartz.”
Sonic the Hedgehog 2: The Movie is scheduled for release on April 8, 2022—a date originally announced only a few scant months into the COVID-19 pandemic. But the movie’s official title announcement came with a reconfirmation of that release date.
Given filming has already wrapped on the sequel, audiences should keep their fingers crossed for better looks at the characters to come soon.
