Sony To Cast Jodie Turncaer-Smith To Play Calypso In Kraven The Hunter

Sony has been extending its Marvel universe with numerous films in production. One of those films is about Kraven The Hunter.

The studio is reportedly eyeing Jodie Turner-Smith to portray Calypso, a voodoo priestess, and Kraven’s love interest in the comics.

Recently it was announced that Aaron Taylor-Johnson had been cast in the titular role. Calypso was first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #209 in 1980 by Denny O’Neil and Alan Weiss.

The news was exclusively reported by The Illuminerdi, who previously also broke the news of Sony looking to cast Chameleon as a villain in the film.

In the comics, Chameleon is Kraven’s half-brother, and Calypso is the one who gifts Kraven his enchanted speed and strength; this suggests that the film will show Kraven’s origin story.

So, with Chameleon and Calypso involved, Kraven could be forming his own league of supervillains.

Calypso has the powers of mind control and resurrection and is an important part of Kraven’s story. Even with plot details kept under wraps, Kraven The Hunter might give fans the much-anticipated villain origin story.

Kraven The Hunter is written by Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. With JC Chandor set to direct the film.

The Spider-Man comics characters getting their own projects at Sony include Venom, Morbius, Kraven, and Spider-Woman, among others.

Kraven The Hunter is set to hit theaters on January 13, 2023.
