A new image from the upcoming How I Met Your Father season 2 features Hillary Duff’s Sophie receiving a very important phone call. This is going to be one of the most significant moments in season 2. How I Met Your Father season 2 will premiere on Hulu on January 24, 2023.

The series, which is a spin-off of the popular 2004 sitcom How I Met Your Mother, follows the same premise as the original show. The show follows Sophie as she narrates to her son the story of how she met his father. The first season premiered in January 2022, and it was soon renewed for a second season.

TVLine has recently unveiled an exclusive image from the upcoming season 2 of How I Met Your Father. The image features Sophie answering a phone call as she sits drenched in the middle of a kids’ swimming pool in her kitchen.

TVLine also mentioned that the image is from the January 31 episode, titled “Midwife Crisis”. The episode will see Sophie asking her best friend, Valentina to help her with a gig she got for lying on her CV. The episode will also reveal whether Sophie’s first portrait has been sold, as she will receive an important phone call from the gallery owner, Naomi Reisberg.

There’s some more good news for HIMYF fans. Although season 1 was quite short with just 10 episodes compared to other sitcoms, season 2 is all set to consist of 20 episodes. Co-creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger have revealed that season 2 will include more standalone episodes, given the breathing space.

All episodes in season 1 majorly focused on furthering the plot, which is not what most people expect from a sitcom. Most well-known sitcoms, including HIMYF’s parent series, HIMYM, feature a sufficient number of standalone episodes which are just meant to be watched for fun. Such episodes typically include the gang having a fun night out or simply chilling together, and don’t necessarily further the plot.

How I Met Your Father season 2 will feature such standalone episodes because of its longer episode count. However, that’s not to say the plot will not move forward at all. As of now, we’re still not sure about the father’s identity.

Season 1 hinted that the father could be Jesse, Sid, or Charlie. Sophie’s ex-boyfriend, Drew, from season 1 is also one of the contenders, and will return in few episodes in season 2. The rest of the gang will also return for season 2.

The season 1 finale also included a very special cameo by Cobie Smulders, where she reprised her role as Robin Scherbatsky from How I Met Your Mother. It remains to be seen whether season 2 will feature any such cameos or easter eggs from the original show.

Fans have been expecting a cameo of Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson. While the chances of that happening are low, we can surely expect some easter eggs as the two shows are clearly set in the same universe.

Only time will tell what HIMYF season 2 has in store for us.
