Spider-Man 3 Will Start Many Debates, Says Benedict Cumberbatch

The trailer of Spider-Man: No Way Home punched fans in the guts with its surprising nostalgia. Since its release, the movie has been hands-down the most anticipated Marvel movie of the year.

But the buzz for it now goes up a notch as the Doctor Strange actor has teased (or predicted) that the upcoming movie will end up sparking some really big debates.

Coupling that with the many rumors doing the rounds as Marvel and Holland keep their mouths tight shut, Cumberbatch’s latest opinion raises the stakes even more.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will take up from where Far From Home ended – Peter Parker struggling to find a way to live after Mysterio reveals his identity. However, he asks Doctor Strange to help him out this time, accidentally opening up the multiverse.

Opening up the Spider-Man multiverse means bringing up old villains (Remember the feared but loved Doctor Octopus?).

With so many things to unpack, in a recent Variety Awards Circuit podcast, Cumberbatch praised the upcoming movie as “a daring, brilliant” concept. Coming from the award-winning actor who is a part of it, we can be sure that it is.

He also teased about how explosive the movie would be, sharing that it would cause many fan debates.

Yeah, [filming Spider-Man: No Way Home] will be a lot, a lot of fun. There will be a lot of debate about it, I’m sure, but it’s a daring, brilliant concept.

Holland and Cumberbatch’s friendly jabs continued on the podcast too. The hosts talked about Holland saying Spider-Man 3 is the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made and asked Cumberbatch if he agreed.

He gave a sharp “until Doctor Strange 2” reply, seemingly starting another round in their friendly rivalry!

Cumberbatch even shared that the movie has “great ambitions” and seemingly highly creative ideas. Here’s what he said:

It has got great ambition […] I haven’t seen it, but by all accounts, I think it’s achieved it. And I mean, even on paper, the audacity of it, like, ‘How the hell is that gonna work?’ Also, so excited about the overall opportunity of them exploring those ideas. So yeah, I’ll be really interested to see how it comes out. But I’m pretty certain it’ll be a hit.

Especially with the “how the hell is that gonna work?”, we assume the rumors of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield dropping in the movie might just come true.

What makes Spider-Man: No Way Home “brilliant” will finally be revealed in theaters on December 17, 2021 and later on Disney+.
