Spider-Man: No Way Home End Credits Tease Two Stephens in Dr Strange 2

Spider-Man: No Way Home is perhaps one of the very few MCU films that keep you engaged right from the first frame till the end-credits scene. The film has two post-credit scenes, and both have an important message behind them when it comes to future MCU projects.

SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME - Official Teaser Trailer

While the first mid-credits scene showcases Tom Hardy’s Venom breaking into the MCU and fading away back to his own universe leaving behind a tiny part of the symbiote, the second one sets up the story for Dr Strange 2, aka Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The post-credits scene is a rapid montage of various shots, possibly from Dr Strange 2, and it gives a glimpse of the story could be. However, the highlight of the montage is Dr Stephen Strange coming face to face with another Dr Stephen Strange. So who is he, and where does this all take place?

No Way Home end-credits showcases a darker Stephen Strange coming face to face with our Dr Strange. The Darker Strange also made an appearance in What If…? and was hellbent on undoing the death of Christine Palmer. In Dr Strange 2, the Dark Strange could be from a parallel universe and might have a motive that involves Dr Strange from the current universe.

Sorcerer Supreme in What If…?

Well, let’s take a couple of steps back and go break down all easter eggs from Dr Strange 2 teaser:

  • We see characters from the original Dr Strange appear in the teaser and are accompanied by some new faces. We have Wong, Dr Strange, Christine Palmer, and Mordo. The new faces we see are the Scarlet Witch and Miss America (played by Xochitl Gomez).
  • We see a shot of Rachel and Stephen walking down the aisle which can mean one of the two things: Either they are actually getting married, or it might be some sort of a vision into what happens to them in an alternate universe.
  • We also see Mordo appear for a very brief moment as we hear a background narrative that sounds ominous and talks about the repercussions of playing with space and time. We don’t know if the voice was Mordo’s or someone else’s, but it does sound like something Mordo would say. After all, he decided to leave at the end of Dr Strange when he came to know how the Sorcerer Supreme then and Strange had manipulated time.
  • Wanda Maximoff also has a huge role to play in the film. She is one of the main characters, and we see Dr Strange reach out to her to understand more about the multiverse. At the end of WandaVision, we see her understand dark magic and her own potential. She then hears the voices of her two sons, and that could be from a parallel universe too.
  • America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez, also appears in the trailer, but there’s not much focus on her. In the comics, she is a superhero whose roots lie in a reality out of time, known as the Utopian Parallel. Perhaps we might also get a glimpse of this reality in the film.

  • The Dark Stephen Strange also makes an appearance, and he doesn’t seem to be quite friendly, to say the least. The background narrative ends with the Dark Strange’s face-reveal as he tells how the cause for all the problems around our Dr Strange is himself. How layered and complicated their dynamic would be is something we’ll just have to wait and find out.

Besides all these, we also see a giant one-eyed monster fight against Dr Strange, but I just think that might be of minor significance in the larger scheme of things.

With all this, the Spider-Man: No Way Home sets up Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will be released on May 6, 2022. While a lot has been depicted in this soft teaser, I can’t wait to catch the trailer for more Easter Eggs and speculate what will happen in the film.
