Venom 2 Considered Having Spider-Man In The Film’s Story

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is finally out in theatres after facing various delays. Now director Andy Serkis is spilling the beans on some interesting details about the mid-credit scene and our friendly neighborhood Spidey.

While talking to THR, Serkis said that early on in the development, Spider-Man was considered for a potential crossover,

[The mid-credits scene was] 100 percent in flux, yeah. It couldn’t have been more in flux-y if you tried. (Laughs.) Yeah, of course, it was something that they talked about from before I even came on to the movie. There were moments where he [Spider-Man] was going to be in the story, potentially, and then he wasn’t. But no, we decided that we wanted to really examine the Venom-verse first. So as we were going through principal photography, the inevitable discussions had to be had, but it wasn’t until very, very late on that we reached the precise notion of the teaser that we wanted to lay in there.

Although that idea was scrapped, Peter Parker did end up becoming Venom’s subject of desire in the mid-credit scene as the symbiote licks the screen with Peter’s face on it.

The scene can mean two things. One, is Venom/Eddie in the MCU? Because it looks like he was affected by the multiverse-unleashing events.

Eddie literally ends up in a different place while he’s chilling on his bed, the program on his TV changes to a news report being read by J. Jonah Jameson revealing Spider-Man’s true identity.

(Yup, the exact same scene from Spider-Man: Far From Home when Mysterio’s fake video frames Peter for his murder, revealing his identity.)

Or two, maybe this is just Sony tying loose ends to take back Spider-Man and officially introduce him to Sony’s Spider-verse with Venom, Morbius, Kraven The Hunter, and future Spider-Man movies in it.

In summer 2019, No Way Home was hanging on for dear life when Sony threatened to take back Spider-Man from the MCU over disagreements with Disney. So, even though Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is returning to the MCU, maybe NWH will be his last outing with Doctor Strange and all other MCU superheroes.

As for Venom appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, MCU fans did freak out when they swore they spotted Venom, while others argued that it was Lizard instead.

Venom NWH tweet:

Either way, we just have to wait for the second trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home to see if they officially introduce Venom in it. After all, he did teleport into the multiverse.

About Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is an upcoming American superhero film directed by Andy Serkis. A sequel to 2018’s Venom, it is based on the Marvel Character of the same name. Tom Hardy will be reprising his role as journalist Eddie Brock/ Venom and newcomer Woody Harrelson will play psychotic serial killer Cletus Kasady/ Carnage, in the second installment. Further cast includes Michelle Williams, Reid Scott, and Naomie Harris.

Venom ended with the symbiote destroying Carlton Drake, the symbiote Riot, and the Life Foundation’s spaceship. Thus  the world was saved. In a mid-credits scene, Brock was invited to interview incarcerated serial killer Cletus Kasady, who promised “carnage” when he escaped. This was Woody Harrelson’s Carnage reference.

Now, the trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage teased the appearance of another symbiote Toxin through his host, Patrick Mulligan.
