Danay Garcia Explains Why “Fear the Walking Dead” is Coming to an End

Fear the Walking Dead is a prequel to the events of The Walking Dead and follows a devastated family in the post-apocalyptic era as it tries to survive in the zombie-infested wasteland.

In an Instagram video shot by AMC Plus Europe, show star Danay Garcia, who plays Luciana Galvez, explains why the show is ending after season 8.

Danay Garcia Explains Why Fear The Walking Dead Is Ending After 8 Seasons

The Walking Dead is currently airing seasons 11 and 12, but its sequel is ending much sooner with season 8. Garcia explains that this is to ensure that it doesn’t become too draggy.

One of the funniest questions I get asked is: What happened to Fear the Walking Dead that it’s ending? Nothing happened. What happened is that we’ve been on the air for eight seasons, and we felt like it was a really fun run. Nothing really happened to Fear. It’s just that we’ve been on the air for quite some time, and it’s the time.

While many fans might disagree, we think that the decision of the showrunners is good for the show in the long run.

In the era of abrupt cancellations, Fear the Walking dead will have the chance to prevent an abrupt ending infested with unexpected cliffhangers and unfinished storylines.

Garcia also comments that the cast and crew will end it without any drama, and that will ensure a smooth conclusion to the prequel. Given that the Walking Dead is still continuing, finishing the prequel on a high will positively impact the franchise going forward.

A planned ending for the prequel also ensures a smooth narrative flow for the spin-offs. Shows like The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead: Dead City and Rick and Michonne give a chance to the franchise to grow even more.

The Walking Dead has derailed from its path significantly after shifting focus to Morgan and Strand because they killed much of the Clarke family. Despite dwindling ratings, a proper ending can still offer many characters the closure they deserve.

While the walker threat will not cease to exist, we can still expect the last season to have many decisive moments and unexpected character arcs.
