Dal attempts the Kobayashi Maru simulation 99 times and comes out with the learning that in order to be a better leader he needs to listen to his crew more. This possibly means he will agree to their suggestion of heading to the Federation so they can figure out their next step.

They express their concerns to Dal and suggest going to the Federation considering the impending danger from the Diviner and the proto drive rendered useless since it became offline. Dal, on the other hand, wants to enjoy their newfound freedom.

Gwyn thanks Dal for saving her and tells him she probably wouldn’t have survived had they not come back for her since her own father sold her out. She’s still trying to come to terms with what had happened and Dal walks in on her crying.

Janeway tells the crew about the Holodeck program and how it can create hyper-realistic simulations. Dal selects the Kobayashi Maru simulation to prove himself to the crew. But he ends up getting a captain assessment score of 3%.

Gwyn and Zero try to uncover what the starship’s true purpose was before they found it. She asks Janeway about it but she starts to glitch, and Gwyn realizes she’d been programmed to make this information inaccessible. She attempts to crack the code and is able to get access to the data.
