Star Wars: The Acolyte Producer Sues Lucasfilm Over Contract Breach

I don’t know about you, but I live for drama – on-screen and off-screen. Star Wars is giving us enough of both with a new report stating producer Karyn McCarthy is suing Lucasfilm over canceling her contract with an upcoming series. Star Wars: The Acolyte will hit Disney+ in 2023, but now McCarthy’s lawsuit might push that back.

Per a report by Deadline, McCarthy filed a case against Lucasfilm for breach of contract. The House of Cards producer received two offers from different companies –Apple and Lucasfilm. Both “aggressive” offers were competing for McCarthy’s agreement, but Sugar lost to The Acolyte, and the producer signed on with Lucasfilm.

But two weeks after the deal was sealed, Lucasfilm pulled out, leaving the producer high and dry as Apple had already chosen a different EP for Sugar.

I have to say it’s hard not to side with McCarthy on this since she even moved out to accommodate the long-term process of shaping The Acolyte’s story and take an active part in the filming. Adding to the already messed up situation, Lucasfilm claims that they had not signed the producer, even though the defendant has evidence opposing that.

It’s only been a short while since the lawsuit was opened, so we don’t have any other news on the topic as of now.
