The Bad Batch Re-introduces Yet Another Jedi in Season 2!

If you’re wondering what adventure awaits the Bad Batch in S2 Ep 6, you’ll be happy to see that the team is sorting out their next mission on the familiar planet of Kashyyyk. There, they find out that the planet is being ravaged by the ruthless Trandoshan mercenaries who have sided with the Empire.

But there’s another familiar character, nay, Jedi, who the Bad Batch comes across in this episode. Should we believe our eyes — is Gungi really alive? If yes, how?

Star Wars: The Bad Batch S2 Ep 6 reveals that the Wookie Jedi, Gungi is indeed alive. However, the show does not provide an explanation as to how he survived Order 66. It is assumed that he immediately went into hiding when the attack was carried out.

As you all know, when Order 66 was given out, all clone troopers were commanded to kill any and all Jedis they come across. But what was worst of all was that Anakin himself carried out an attack, killing off several Younglings. The murder of innocent children is one of Star Wars’ darkest aspects, which fully converted Anakin into Darth Vader.

At the time of the attack, Gungi was a Youngling himself and it was assumed thus far that he was killed by Anakin. However, fans will be happy to know that he’s alive and quietly thriving.

This episode definitely shows that the trouble is far from over for Jedis, individuals who are force sensitive or anyone who sides with them. Indeed, when we see Gungi, he’s been kidnapped by droids to be sold for a price!

The episode does not explain how Gungi survived, but it’s safe to assume that he somehow stayed hidden during the attack. It also wasn’t revealed whether or not his other Youngling friends survived the attack.

There were rumors that George Lucas wanted to create another spin-off focusing on these Younglings, so it is possible that Gungi’s survival and re-introduction in The Bad Batch S2 may serve as a backdoor to that story.

As such, it makes sense why we’re still left in the dark about his survival, as that would be the crux of the new show. If that’s indeed the case, you can expect to get more answers about Gungi’s experience about Order 66 sometime in the future.

As for The Bad Batch S2 Ep 6, it was lovely to see Omega in total awe of Gungi as he’s probably one of the first Jedis/Force-sensitive individuals she’s come across. Going out of her way to protect him is also very on-brand for her!

Although Gungi continues to face more troubles in this episode, Omega and the Bad Batch are able to get him home safely.

What has Gungi been doing all this time and what will he get up to next? I, for one, am eagerly hoping Lucas’ Youngling spin-off is greenlit soon.
