Stephen Amell Wants to Play Green Arrow in His Own DCU Movie

Stephen Amell of Arrow fame reveals that he would love to play Green Arrow in his own spin-off movie if the new version of the DCU has a place for him.

Stephen Amell played the role of Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow in The CW’s Arrow since season 1 in 2012. The series had a successful run for eight seasons until 2020, when it went off-air.

Arrow is the first show to become a part of a shared universe called the Arrowverse. It gave birth to several spin-off shows, including DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and The Flash, all of which together constitute the Arrowverse.

In a recent interview with Geek House Show, Amell was asked if he would like to be a part of the new DCU, which is currently being revamped by CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Amell mentioned that he would want to continue playing Green Arrow in the DCU, preferably in “his own movie.” In other words, Amell expressed his desire to star in a full-fledged Green Arrow spin-off movie as the titular character.

Check out Amell’s entire quote below –

If I’m gonna be a part of the DCEU, I’d probably just want to play the Green Arrow in there. I don’t know. I mean, are they still separate? Didn’t we have two Flashes in the Arrowverse at one point? So, I don’t know. We’ll see. Whatever they want. If I had to pick one, I’d pick my own movie, only because there’s so many things that selfishly I would like to do with Arrow that we couldn’t necessarily do on TV.

As of now, the DCU is going through a very uncertain time so it is hard to say whether any of the previous DCEU shows or characters will be a part of Gunn and Safran’s new plan. The merger of DC Studios’ parent company, Warner Bros., with Discovery has led to some unprecedented changes within the studios.

A Batgirl movie that has been on the cards for years has been canceled and Wonder Woman 3 is no longer in production. James Gunn also recently announced that Henry Cavill will not be playing Superman in the DCU at least as of now. In other words, there have been some major changes within the studios.

The CW went through a similar phase of uncertainty when Nexstar bought the network. Nexstar’s takeover led to the cancellation of every Arrowverse series except Superman and Lois and the Supergirl spin-off.

Thus, it is hard to say with certainty that the future of the Arrowverse is secure or the Arrowverse will be a part of the DCU. As of now, Arrowverse fans can look forward to a Green Arrow cameo in The Flash season 9.

Flash and Arrow

Stephen Amell’s return as Arrow in The Flash season 9 will bring a much-deserved closure, if the Arrowverse is truly coming to an end. However, DC Studios can also decide to include him in the redesigned DCU, which will give the universe a new beginning.

The upcoming DCU film, The Flash, will be bringing in the multiverse into the DCU. Flash will encounter Batman from another dimension in the film, alongside the original DCU Batman. Using this logic, many characters who are no longer a part of the DCU, including Arrowverse characters, can be brought into the new version of the DCU.

Hopefully this is not the end for the Arrowverse and they’ll continue to be a part of the DCU in one way or another.
